At Light Up Trails, we believe the magic of Christmas should reach beyond the gardens. Each year, through The Glow of Giving, we share a little of that sparkle with projects that bring hope, joy, and opportunity to others, from grassroots football in Chichester, to a school in India, to supporting those facing homelessness here in the UK.
This season, we are proud to have donated £1,000 to SoCo Music Project, a Southampton charity that uses music to inspire and support young people.
Why SoCo?
After reading a moving BBC article about SoCo’s work, Libby from Light Up Trails wanted to learn more about how they use music to change lives. What she discovered was an organisation dedicated to keeping young people off the streets and giving them a positive focus through creativity.
With our support, SoCo is running monthly Open Sessions at Planet Sounds, their music rehearsal, recording and community hub. It’s a safe, welcoming space where young people can:
SoCo’s inspiring Music Leaders guide participants across genres from rock and indie to hip hop and grime — proving that music can be both an outlet and a lifeline.
“Music plays an integral role in our Light Up Trails productions each year, so there’s a natural connection in how both our organisations use sound and creativity to spark emotion and bring people together.”
— Libby Battaglia, Light Up Trails
“These sessions are fun and vibrant, but they can also be a lifeline. Many of the young people we work with face challenges with their mental health, are navigating neurodiversity, or having hard times at school or home – we give them something positive to look forward to, and the space to be creative leads to incredible music.”
— Matt, SoCo Music Project
Shining Brighter Together
Through SoCo, we’re proud to help light the way for the next generation, proving that creativity, whether through light or sound, has the power to transform lives.
