At Light Up Trails, we believe festive experiences should be created with care for the places that host them. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, protecting the landscapes we work in, and improving our practices year on year.

From design and build through to food, travel and waste, we look for ways to make more thoughtful choices across every part of the event.

Light and Sound

Our trail is designed to work with the natural landscape, using light and sound carefully and purposefully. We aim to minimise unnecessary lighting, use energy-efficient technology where possible, and position installations with consideration for the surrounding environment and wildlife.

Sound is used selectively and in defined areas, helping us create atmosphere while respecting the gardens and the local community. At the end of each evening, sound and projection equipment are turned off, while lighting systems may remain powered where needed to protect equipment and support site security. This approach helps us maintain the safe and reliable operation of the trail throughout the season.

Protecting the Gardens

We work closely with our venue partners to ensure installations, infrastructure and event operations are planned with care. Our aim is always to protect the landscape, minimise disruption, and leave the site in good condition once the event ends.

Food and Drink

We aim to work with local and responsibly sourced suppliers wherever possible, and we encourage a range of food and drink options that reflect different dietary needs, including vegetarian and vegan choices.

By supporting local businesses where we can, we help reduce transport impact and contribute to the local economy.

Energy Use

We are committed to improving energy efficiency across the event. Wherever possible, we prioritise efficient power solutions and look for ways to reduce unnecessary fuel use and waste.

We continue to review how power is used across the trail and by our traders so that we can make more responsible choices each season.

Travel

Visitor travel is an important part of any event’s environmental footprint. As parking on site is limited, we encourage guests to car share wherever possible and help reduce the number of cars travelling to the event. Parking is free, but we do hope visitors will consider their travel impact when planning their journey to Light Up Trails.

Digital Ticketing

We use digital ticketing to help reduce paper waste and make entry to the event as smooth as possible. Guests are encouraged to keep their tickets on their phones where they can.

Waste and Recycling

We ask our food and drink traders to use recyclable, biodegradable or responsibly sourced packaging wherever possible. Recycling points are provided on site, and we aim to reuse materials and scenic elements across seasons wherever appropriate.

Our Ongoing Commitment

We know sustainability is an ongoing process, and we are committed to reviewing and improving our approach each year. By working thoughtfully with our partners, suppliers and visitors, we aim to create memorable experiences while caring for the environment around us.
