Light Up Trails are so pleased to be supporting local Sussex hospices, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas for our Light Up Wiston Estate event. The hospices will be receiving a percentage of the profits we make from our Christmas spectacular!
Chestnut Tree House is a children’s charity providing hospice care services and community support for children and young people with progressive life-shortening conditions in Sussex and South East Hampshire.
They offer a wide range of essential support, from respite care in house and carers out in the community, to hydrotherapy, psychological and bereavement support, and sibling break days.
Chestnut Tree home is a sanctuary for so many families in desperate need of support, and is a beautifully calm, yet fun place to be for the children.
It currently costs over £4 million each year to provide all the care services offered by Chestnut Tree House. Families are never charged for their care and less than 6p in every pound is funded by the government, so we are very pleased to be supporting them this year when a great deal of their fundraising events weren’t able to take place due to the pandemic.
St Barnabas House provided free specialist care to almost 2,000 people last year, both in their own homes as well as in the hospice building in Worthing. Thanks to support from the local community, adults with terminal illnesses and their loved ones can live life as fully as possible, for the time they have left together. And, when the time comes, St Barnabas House is there to support people at the end of their life so that they can die with dignity in a warm and caring environment of their choice.
Only 24% of St Barnabas House’s £9 million annual care costs are covered by statutory funding, which means the support from the local community is vital.
One of our marketing team has benefited personally from Chestnut Tree House, and this is what she said:
“I have been going to Chestnut Tree House since I was 5 years old. I was one of the first to ever attend the hospice just after it was set up. Beforehand there was nowhere for struggling families to turn, and I can’t put into words what an amazing place it is. The support that we have received from them over the years is invaluable, and I will be forever grateful that a service like this exists in the local community.”
When you join us at Light Up Wiston Estate, you will be supporting these incredible charities and those in need in the local community.
